Grow a sack!

Posted on Wednesday 26 December 2007

I need to grow a sack and do something I should have done a month ago… Do it ya dummy!!! Don’t let your opportunity pass you by again, it might not come around again!

Ok, I’m gonna take care of business at the first opportunity… a pre-new years 2008 resolution…

Over and out!

Myspace

Posted on Saturday 22 April 2006

Myspace is an interesting creation. It seems to have taken the world by storm recently and it’s cool to watch it become part of our culture. It seems to me it’s becoming a normal part of everyone’s communication system. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard “Do you have myspace?” It has also become one of the easiest ways to waste time! You log on to check your page and then look down at your watch and an hour has gone by!

It’s amazing what you can learn about someone from their Myspace profile. Check out their comments, look at their pictures, read their profile and blogs, and check out the comments they post on other people’s pages and you can piece together a scary amount of information. You can find out where they hang out, what they like to do, and analysis of their top 8 can tell you a lot about who is important to them.

The “Top 8″ is one of my favorite things to look at. It’s interesting to see how people organize their lists. Do you put family first? Friends? Prospective girlfriend/boyfriend candidates? I’ve noticed most people organize their top 8 in groups like I mentioned, but change up their order of those groups by what group they put first. Personally, my top 8 is usually organized by closest friends, then my “prospects.” If I had family that was on Myspace, they’d be first, but I’m the only one on there.

I like Myspace! I like to waste time there then I can afford it, and I think it’s a great way to reconnect with old friends as well as meet new people. If you don’t have a profile yet, you should get one!

Here we go again!

Posted on Wednesday 5 April 2006

It’s been awhile since I wrote anything here, so I figure I’ll give and update.

I’ve been busy with work as usual. It seems as time goes by, the deeper into work I get. Still learning new things everyday, so I’m definately not bored. Recently, I’ve been learning a lot about government purchasing and the constant struggle between purchasing agents, department heads, and vendors. It’s also budget time, so I’ve been going though my wish list, crunching numbers and looking at calendars to see what kinds of projects I want to do next year and figure out how much they will cost. The budget process won’t be over until June, so I’m sure things will get even more interesting between now and then.

Outside of work, I’ve been trying to relax as much as possible and have fun. I went to Destin, FL for vacation at the end of March and had a blast. I managed to get a NICE condo for 3 nights for 250 bux! Talk about a nice deal. I brought 3 frends with me and we racked up a $400 bar tab one specific night at one of the bars. Needless to say, we had a great time, met some cool people, and got TONS of pictures.

The reef tank has been chugging along nicely. No real changes there except I started dosing some new additives and my coral growth has skyrocketed. I got some new pieces of coral from a friend about a month ago too. Nice stuff that’s growing good so far. It’s amazing all of the extra connections that have come since I got into the hobby. Never in a million years did I think I’d meet new friends though something as subtle as a fish tank. I spent an evening/night hanging out with some friends from the LA Reef Club that live about 20 minutes from me. They’re freaking awesome people, and not just because we both have a tank (although that’s still pretty cool). It’s nice getting into a new hobby and making new friends that you can hang out with and not just talk about tank stuff with.

I’ve taken up a new hobby in the last month too. When I was a little kid, my dad used to play the guitar and always told me stories about an uncle of mine that played the ukulele. I was always fascinated with it, and have always wanted to play the ukulele (yeah, I know I’m weird). Well my best friend found a cheapo ukulele, bought it, and gave it to me. My dad tuned it up and played it, so I took it home and learned a couple songs. After seeing how much fun it was, I got online and found a much better one than the “toy” ukulele I was trying to learn on. That was a month ago and now I know about 8 songs on it!

On a more personal note, I’m still single, BUT things have been looking up for me recently. The only fitting saying that comes to mind is “when it rains, it pours.” I’ve had a few good prospects lately, so that’s been cool. A couple didn’t pan out very well, but the most recent one is promising! I’m trying very carefully not to call, txt, or IM too much because I can sometimes tend to do that when I like someone. It’s amazing what a ukulele can do!

Well that’s enough for tonight! More later…

Concert dates

Posted on Wednesday 7 December 2005

I like to try and learn something from everything I do, and last night’s event was definately a learning experience. What did I learn you ask? Don’t buy tickets to a concert with the intention of bringing a date without first getting the date…

Mid-November I was invited to go to the Jason Mraz concert in Mobile, AL with my best friend and his family on their new/old 1977 GMC motor home. Sounded like fun to me and they said “bring a date” so I was in for the adventure. I spent 80 bux on 2 really good tickets on the orchestra level and started the search for a date. Every one I asked was either “busy” that night or didn’t know who Jason Mraz was. Having no luck calling every female I know and even crossing the office dating boundary and getting shot down, I told my friend to find someone.

Long story short, I sat by myself for the concert. I tried selling the ticket at the door with no luck, then tried to give it away… No one would take it… I even walked into a restaurant next to the theatre and announced it was free for the taking and all I got back was the sound of crickets chirping while everyone stared at me like a deer in your headlights. The concert was great and everyone I asked missed out big time but for some reason I’m still pissed about not bringing anybody… It’s not about the wasted ticket, it’s the total rejection I got. I can’t figure out why no one wanted to go… Free ticket, good musician, cool guy with a good job and good head on his shoulders bringing you, interesting group of people to travel with… It just doesn’t make sense…

I feel like Charlie Brown…

The work week…

Posted on Friday 4 November 2005

I’m not sure why, but I just don’t feel as productive at work as I used to… It seems like I’m distracted, but I don’t know what is distracting me. Maybe I need to take a few days off and relax… I have Veterans Day off, so I might take the Monday after off too. 4 days away from work will do me good…

I’ve got a new Reef Tank!

Posted on Wednesday 2 November 2005

After spending a year learning how to keep fragile saltwater fish and corals alive in a small 30 gallon aquarium, I went out and bought a “real” tank. I went to Kenner about 2 weeks ago and visited George at Coral Connection. I shopped around on the phone before making the trip and figured they’d be the best place to get the whole sha-bang. I spent about 3 hours mulling over choices after giving up with the girl (Nikki) that works there. Everytime I’d ask a question about some equipment, the answer was usually “well it depends on what you prefer.” This translates into “I really don’t know.” I got everything picked, bet George a buck it would all fit in my car, won the bet (I understand this doesn’t happen often… I saw his wall of dollars), and headed home cautiously. I could only see out my driver window and windshield. Got home and went to Lowes, bought all my plumbing supplies and went to gluing it together. I was lucky to be able to have the help of my faithful friend BJ. We’ve been friends since the 4th grade and have worked on numerous “projects” in the past so we got the whole thing setup, plumbed, filled and running in about 4 hours. The tank has cycled and everythign from the 30 has been transfered. So far I’m very impressed with how it is turning out and the LACK of problems I’ve had with the entire setup. I guess the year of education really helped me out.

Here is a picture of the tank right after I got everything transferred and the water cleared up.
